Creativity & Genre
Creativity is a key factor when embarking upon a new endeavor in a field ripe with choices. Creativity helps people develop big ideas and new thoughts. This is quite dynamic in improving one’s performance on a particular task. The Ted Talk on the theory of creativity showed this. He showed how when people do not have a large amount of time, they are not able to come up with the most creative idea they have the potential to. He had a group of people have one minute to draw a house. Everyone drew the same generic house because they didn’t have time to show their creativity. This shows how creativity is a key factor and is very important.
After viewing the Ted Talk video, we wrote 10 sentences about ourselves. Not just our name, age and favorite color. We could write about our bucket list or compare ourselves to animals. Which is what I chose. At first it was difficult to compare myself to animals but after 5 or so I was able to easily think of an animal and figure out its characteristics and see if I have any in common. I used a sloth, alligator, and whale as a few of my animals.
In the Interview with Ron Beghetto, he talks about how creativity self – efficacy is so important. Some of the points he made were, “Of course, high levels of creative self-efficacy do not guarantee a successful outcome (I've made my share of awful meals) and there is a long line of research that demonstrates that highly incompetent people can also have some of the highest levels of self-confidence.”, this is showing how creativity does not promise a perfect outcome but there is a lot of research that demonstrates highly incompetent people are more creative and confident.
A week or two ago, I decided on creating a movie. This week I decided that my group and I will be creating a horror comedy film. We decided on this after viewing a few different movies. The movies were The Babysitter and Detention. The movie The Babysitter was a horror, comedy film which was about a babysitter basically in a cult and the child she is babysitting finds out. The director uses movie tropes such as misguided dad and get the gun already. These add to the concept of the movie and make you get intrigued and you want to keep watching until the end. The movie Detention is about a group of high school students that are dying off one by one and no one knows who is doing it. This movie is again a horror, comedy movie. The use tropes such as get the gun already and my hero. They are both used throughout the entire movie which again makes you want to keep watching. These movies both use humor in a rude way and try to make fun of the characters. While viewing these two films I would use some of the same camera angles where they would show the entire group and zoom in on certain people to cause suspense or make you care for the characters.
My vision for my portfolio with Olivia and Tatiana is to create a comedy horror film. We decided to do this because we believed a horror film would be fun to edit and give us a challenge. We also wanted to add humor to make the class laugh and be able to have fun with it. We’re going to use our own creativity to create this film to show how much we are capable of as a team.
